Fiscal integrity

Bill Jamieson’s customarily informed article (Perspective, 5 June) rightly points out the importance of a Scottish Fiscal Commission being, and being seen to be, above and beyond reproach in its objectivity.

It is also a reminder too of the joke about seeking a one-armed economist by those fed up with the two-handed variety – on the one hand things will be better and on the other hand much worse in an independent Scotland!

Our present First Minister, an economist himself when first appointed, wrote a note of encouragement to Fred Goodwin during his expansionist days and as we know the taxpayers are still picking up the tab for RBS.

So, yes let’s have objectivity with this Scottish Fiscal Commission.
