Fines deserved

What is the problem about parking fines of £100 (your report, 22 March)? Or even £200? A parking fine is a self-inflicted injury.

Everyone knows where it is legal to park, the machines dispensing tickets for designated parking bays are obvious, and anti-social parking elsewhere deserves to be punished. Since in this country the offending drivers can't be dragged out of their cars and shot, an expensive fine is the next best deterrent.
