Fight goes on

The Church of Scotland has been banging on about the Chinook helicopter crash on the Mull of Kintyre, which has been blamed on the pilots, since it happened in 1994 (your report, 5 January).

Only this year the moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, Bill Hewitt, wrote to the Prime Minister and asked for a review of the case.

The reply said that "unless compelling new evidence is presented of some actual (rather than hypothetical) failure of the airframe, avionics or engines, it is unlikely the official position (refusing to reconsider the judgment] will change".

The evidence presented this week would seem to more than meet the criteria set by the MoD for a new inquiry. We need to know the truth and the Church will not rest until we get it.
