In fiefdom of Fife

HARRY D Watson is incorrect to state (Letters, 11 February) that Inchkeith and Inchcolm are “islands in the Forth, not in Fife, which is a landmass”.

Fife is a local authority area, and as such includes within its boundaries a number of offshore islands.

Inchkeith, Inchcolm, and indeed the Isle of May, at the entrance to the Firth of Forth, all fall within Fife’s boundaries, in the same way that Lewis and Harris, now part of the Western Isles council area, once formed part of Ross and Cromarty and Inverness-shire respectively.
