Festive ads

I look forward to the Christmas advertisements every year because they’re wonderful, imaginative, touching and heart- warming. Ellis Thorpe (Letters, 17 November) should just turn them off when they’re on, if he hates them so much.

The Christmas advertisements sparkle through the  dreich weeks before Christmas and tempt us to buy things which, unless I have misunderstood Mr Osborne’s financial strategy, is what will turn the economy around.
