Festival timings

Talk about moving the date of the Edinburgh Festival or the Fringe chimed with my own thoughts about the obvious benefits – and, to be honest, demerits – of the event upon the city.

The income generated is good for many businesses, though the sheer numbers do mean that the city creaks under the strain of so many visitors. The awful state of the rubbish-strewn and dirty streets needs no amplification.

Nonetheless, Edinburgh and the country as a whole benefit from this world event which surpasses all other festivals. Could we not, however, stretch it out over both July and August?

If big events like the Tattoo could be retained in August along with the Jazz and TV Festivals, perhaps another
T in the Park could be added and the Fringe brought back to July?
