Feminine touch

YOUR article calling for more women in the boardroom (Business, 3 April) may be slightly missing the point. Whilst more women in senior positions might make a difference, this may not happen; on the other hand, it should do no harm.

Surely the system of back-scratching that is part of the process of promotion within business creates a narrow-minded, blinkered individual and prevents those lateral and creative thinkers who are willing to promote a degree of radicalism from ever getting near the top. This will apply regardless of gender.

It is not the case that to reach the top indicates ability.Capability in executing the responsibility of the top position seems to be sorely lacking and greed the main motivation; otherwise why the huge salaries and bonuses, when the challenge of the job is supposed to be the main motivator?
