Female artists still brushed over

I COMMEND Guy Peploe for his excellent essay in Scotland On Sunday on the subject of women artists.

Further to his comments, I would add that even in this more enlightened age, women artists are more likely to have difficulties sustaining their careers alongside maintaining other family and domestic commitments.

I wish we had an equally eloquent spokesperson for printmaking which is still regarded as the “Cinderella” of the arts. Should someone happen to fall into the categories of both female and printmaker, then, they are indeed in double jeopardy.

I look forward to the Victoria Crowe Exhibition at The Scottish Gallery in August. She is an excellent artist.
