False hope

DEPUTY Prime Minister Nick Clegg made some telling points in his speech to the Liberal Democrat conference in Glasgow, aiming, I would suggest, at a national coalition. The chances of that, however, are as remote as my winning the Pulitzer prize for literature.

As Martin Luther King’s daughter, also Dr King, said in her address at the rally in Washington to mark the 50th anniversary of her father’s “I have a dream” speech, politicians are so busy standing their ground that they do not seek common ground in the interests of humanity. Indeed, I doubt it ever enters their mind.
