Faith in future

As a secular campaigner and Doonhamer living in Edinburgh and I was very proud to hear of Dumfries and Galloway Council acting to remove prayers from the official council business agenda.

In this context prayers served the interests not only of a religious minority but a further Christian and sectarian subset even of that minority and had no place in our public life.

While it is very important that the religious continue to be free to have religion in their private lives that freedom does not extend to ownership of our shared spaces such as our councils and schools.

Well done Dumfries and Galloway Council for leading the way in social change.
