Fair fares please

Edinburgh is trying to encourage people to leave the car at home and use public transport. In the conditions of carriage it states that children under five travel free.

However, if you have three children under that age you have to pay for one of them. A member of my family boarding the bus had two three-year-olds and a two-month-old baby strapped to her so she was in breach of the rules for the free child’s fare.

She was, however, not taking up three seats. Do we need to think of discrimination or does she just get in a car?

Is it time to review such policies in the hope that in the future we are all able to embrace public transport.
