Fair broadcaster

I am astonished at the recent criticism of the BBC by your Nationalist correspondents (Letters, 29 and 30 July).

We in the UK have the finest and fairest public broadcasting system in the world, the envy of many, the only organisation that was trusted by both sides to tell the truth during the long Iraq-Iran war.

It is now pilloried, apparently for not treating the wildest of assertions and fantasies of the SNP as “opportunities” or fact.

I shudder to think of a broken-off Scotland where a supposedly free and fair public broadcasting system will be subject to approval by the letter writers or other apparatchiks of the SNP.

Big Brother approval will presumably be necessary and no-one would dare broadcast anything that might upset their party’s leadership.
