Ethnic squirrel cleansing

I must take issue with Clark Cross's letter (7 March) condemning grey squirrels. Individual grey squirrels are as native to Scotland as humans from ethnic minorities.

Referring to them as "aliens" because of their ethnic origin is an unfair and concerted campaign by those who want to control nature.

By all means take steps to assist the reds to recover by improving their habitats, but not at the expense of slaughtering the greys.

Grey squirrels are part of our wild-life and should be accepted as that.
