Eriska adventure

Jessica Kiddle (Weekend Life, 1 February) should not believe everything she reads on Google. There was a hotel on Eriska in the 1940s.

I know, because my parents, my sisters and I spent a holiday there, as indeed did the Earl of Wemyss and his first wife, who spent the evenings knitting socks for the troops.

The earl very graciously invited my father and me to play snooker with him.

Another highlight was that the owner arranged for the ferry to Fort William to heave to in Loch Linnhe, and he took us out by launch to board it, which was a great adventure for a young boy. The whole island was an ­adventure playground.
