Equal treatment

Andrew Hamilton (Letters, 27 January), rightly welcomes the recovery from Ebola of Scottish nurse Pauline Cafferkey.

I regret that he seeks to make a political point against Scottish independence from this event.

Had the referendum ended in a Yes vote, Scotland would still be part of the present UK. Independence would not have come until 2016 at earliest.

In any case, co-operation between independent countries over such matters is normal and there is no reason to suppose that a patient would be less well treated in Scotland than in London.

There is a specialist unit for such cases in Glasgow.
