Energy efficiency lacking spotlight

THE letter from Sarah Boyack and others on Holyrood’s renewable energy and energy efficiency committee (Letters, 27 January) makes a big point of their working with renewables lobbyists (funded by the government to lobby for more funding) who, she boasts, also provide their secretarial support. Isn’t that nice and cosy? It does indeed reflect their concern for promoting renewable energy.

If they were equally interested in promoting energy efficiency, the other part of their remit, which ultimately means lower electricity bills for the common people, they might be equally willing to talk to those who know the engineering facts or even those sceptical of windmillery. But they don’t get government funding to provide services for the committee.
