Energy demands

Brian Wilson’s article “Storm clouds gather over energy” (Perspective, 12 July) makes a compelling case for the need for an energy policy for Scotland.

Over a number of years, many engineers have expressed concern that no replacement nuclear power stations are planned for completion by 2024 at the latest. The lack of a plan to provide base load power stations that do not burn coal or gas shows the Scottish Government in a very poor light.

Brian Wilson’s article does not name those members of the “Expert Commission” who prepared the report for the Scottish Government and it is clear that they have no concept of what is required to formulate an energy policy that will meet the electricity demands of Scotland, as well as addressing the need to reduce greenhouse gasses, for the next 30 years. Well done Brian Wilson.
