End slavishness

It is becoming increasingly clear that the current political arrangement in Scotland is in need of a root and branch makeover.

When plans are made by the Scottish administration to invade the privacy of every Scottish home which has children under 18 by imposing so-called “guardians” on every child, for example, many would ask what guardian parents have to turn to in order to assert their
natural rights to parental responsibility?

Although we have the final say of Westminster – unless Brussels wants to interfere, of course – the Scottish administration, of whatever hue, can do what it wishes and we, the poor, downtrodden voters are expected to put up with it.

The unicameral system is not one which suits any country and, with an overall majority for the Nationalists currently, we are being subjected to rule by decree, as their slavish MSPs do exactly what they are told to do.

The time has come for the government to revisit the Scotland Act and to make acts passed by the Scottish Parliament
subject to approval by the House of Lords.

The result of the referendum makes it plain that the majority of Scots voters wish to remain within the UK, and this would confirm that wish and ensure that every Scot can keep Holyrood in check.
