Electricity supply

I disagree with Steuart Campbell (Letters, 13 August).

In the days of the state electricity boards, be it in the Central Belt or further afield, power interruptions were frequent as the single distribution line was often taken down by trees or road accidents.

As our former house had both a gas supply and an SSEB supply I well remember mothers from adjacent houses calling in to prepare their babies’ bottles during these blackouts.

Privatisation allowed the companies to provide additional and alternative routings, thus delivering a more robust
industry.
