Electric dreams

John Munro (Letters, 14 July) refers to a "frequent fast electric service between Edinburgh and Carlisle".

"Frequent and fast" the service might be, but, except for the nightly sleeper, "electric" it is not. Despite the fact that the line is electrified, the operators, Virgin Trains, and First Trans Pennine, run diesel-powered trains.
