Electoral bookies

Dr John Cameron (Letters, 1 April) rightly makes a case for bookmakers being the most reliable psephologists in times of unpredictable political outcomes. I should like to make the case also for taxi drivers.

I recently encountered a driver who was clearly a knowledgeable Savoyard, expressing the opinion that a vote for anyone other than Mr Cameron in the general election would have the Gilbert and Sullivan effect of making “Gondoliers” of us all.
