Edinburgh worse than Paris and rome for congestion

If congestion exists, and I don’t think it does, it is caused by roadworks and not the volume of traffic. Just try and drive – or even better, use public transport – in London and you will find out.

The survey didn’t seem to notice the farce of pot holes, speed humps or traffic calming, or wonder why the long- promised escalator replacing the Waverley Steps is still not finished. I bet our tourists do, and I bet they tell their friends.

Congestion in Edinburgh is minor compared with other UK cities, never mind the gridlock of Paris and Rome. Like every other conurbation, there are peak-hour delays. These could be mitigated by scrapping unnecessary bus lanes, poorly designed junctions and excessive and appallingly phased traffic lights.

Cars should be restricted in the Old Town. More pedestrian areas would help tourists and locals alike. Plus, of course, the tram, when it arrives.

Paris and Rome don’t have never-ending non-productive tram works clogging up their cities and bankrupting their citizens.

We do have the cheapest and best bus system in the UK. Please don’t forget this.
