Eat your greens

I can’t believe researchers have been ploughing resources into finding out how children can be encouraged to eat more fruit and vegetable – the answer being to introduce simple competitions into meal times (your report, 6 October).

I’m sure I read something many years ago about supermarkets selling chocolate-covered carrots to encourage children to eat them. Just as ridiculous.

Giving children stickers or sugary treats as a bribe is just pandering and will encourage them to be fussy or to expect rewards for doing as they should.

I was told: “Eat your greens,” and that is what I did.
