Dying with dignity

I WAS moved to tears by Jane Nicklinson’s appearance at the press conference on Friday in
Edinburgh, to support Margo MacDonald’s assisted dying bill (your report, 3 November).

Jane said she had never addressed an audience before and was nervous, but she spoke from the heart and gave us a frightening insight into the suffering of her beloved husband Tony.

Toward the end, he refused
antibiotics that might have prolonged his life, leading to his
inevitable death.

We wouldn’t allow a pet animal to suffer in the way that Tony did. If we have any regard for his fight for a right to die with dignity and Jane’s determination to carry on that cause, let us all support Margo’s bill. Write to your MSP today urging them to vote in favour of Margo’s proposals.
