Drugs and morals

With regard to drugs, Liberal Democrat health spokesman Jim Hume states, “The focus for young people has to be health focused. Real damage can be done to them” (your report, 26 December).

Just looking at dangers to the drug user reduces the decision to abuse drugs to a risk assessment balancing pleasure against health perils and fits with plans to liberalise drugs laws. Children should understand the dangers, risks and costs to society, which put the issue in the realm of personal responsibility and justifies legal prohibition on moral grounds.
