Drinks industry is not to blame

ALYN Smith is wrong about the whisky industry and the drinks industry in general (Comment, 12 May).

These industries have no power whatsoever to pour cheap drink down the throats of Scots and to claim they do is to pretend that no-one has free will or personal responsibility.

If excess drinking is really the fault of the drinks industry then it follows that obesity is the fault of the food industry. Are we going to see minimum prices for food introduced? Given the absurdity of politics in general, it will not be surprising and, indeed, has ­already been proposed by medical associations.
