Dramatic choice

TIM Cornwell (Arts, 11 February) says I am fighting a "one-man campaign to persuade the National Theatre of Scotland (NTS) to perform older Scottish plays".

In fact, the long campaign for a National Theatre was mainly based on the need for a company to rescue important Scottish plays of the past from oblivion.

Every national theatre in the world regards the creation of a repertoire of the great plays of the past of its own country as its major responsibility.

When the establishment of our National Theatre was announced the Festival director at the time, Brian McMaster, said we would not have to wait long for a new production of The Three Estaitis. "It was bound to be their first priority".

So it should have been, but there is still no sign of it.
