Dook of love

There was a terrific start to Homecoming Scotland 2014 here in South Queensferry on 1 January when thousands of people including more than 1,000 Dookers enjoyed the 28th annual Loony Dook in the shadow of the iconic bridges in near perfect conditions for the time of year.

The atmosphere on the day was fantastic and the success of the event was in no small way due to all those involved in the planning and arrangements for the Loony Dook. All credit to the main organisers, the team from Unique Events, who did a great job in putting it all together, also the G4S stewards, the Red Cross personnel, the police for their noted but very low-key presence and of course Queensferry Lifeboat crew for their very effective and reassuring presence on the water.

Not forgetting the City of Edinburgh Council personnel for their continuing contribution to the smooth and safe running of the event.

Finally well done to all the hardy Dookers, many of whom will have raised substantial sums for their chosen charities.
