Don’t let it lie

I WOULD like to congratulate the Welsh Assembly, which last week approved its Housing Bill with provisions to license landlords and letting agents.

The Welsh have gone a step further than the Scottish Parliament by insisting that landlords and letting agents will not only have to be registered but, if they want to manage properties, will have to be licensed as well.

If Scotland is at all serious about raising standards, having a licensed scheme linked to an approved training structure has to be the way forward.

For now, north of the Border at least, we must focus on establishing a robust code of conduct with the “teeth” to penalise those landlords and agents that don’t measure up.
