Don't forget TV ban precedent

YOUR article (News, 25 April) claims: "A final appeal by the SNP and Plaid against the broadcasting of the debates was turned down by the BBC Trust last week, in a move which appears to have prompted Salmond's unprecedented move."

The issue is with the word "unprecedented". Whomever wrote this article forgot completely about John Major's BBC appearance being blocked in Scotland by Scottish courts during the 1996 local elections.

That is not only an important precedent historically, but legally as well.
