Dissent in CBI

Iain McMillan should consider resigning from his position at the head of the CBI in Scotland. We learn now that he is neither representative of the views of his members, nor can he accurately portray the factual content of his meetings with them (your report, 23 January)

I am reflecting on media reports of McMillan reporting that “all” of his members agreed at a meeting that a Scottish Government with tax-raising powers would result in “damaging business north of the Border”.

That all of the members were at the meeting was wrong, and of the 50 per cent who attended, they seem to be mystified as to who said it at all! Others disagreed with the comment.

The sooner we have Scottish business leadership that is set on building from within, working with government and truly aware of what is going on in this world as it changes before us so dramatically, the earlier we will adopt a culture that rejects those whose political bias poisons fact.

We desperately need in the debate, and in the time that is required until the 2014 referendum, accuracy and the proper unbiased opinion of all.
