Dirty streets

IT'S accepted that we live in a throwaway society but, as John Moir indicates (Letters, 26 March) regarding roadwork bric-a-brac, we also live in a "don't bother to tidy up behind you" society. I encountered a series of "road closed" signs last weekend which might have been relevant during weekdays but appeared to be causing needless detours, which resulted in traffic being crammed into normally quiet residential side streets.
