Different case

I was dismayed to read Sir Bob Geldof’s comments about Scottish independence.

He calls nationalism “a very dangerous political animal” and so it has been at times in Northern Ireland.

However, when Sir Bob goes on to say “I know this – I’m Irish”, he really should have made the qualification that he is from southern
Ireland, where a bloody war was fought to gain its
independence from the UK last century.

Is he seriously trying to compare the peaceful, democratic process that Scotland is currently working through towards independence, with that same war? He is either being disingenuous or he is very naive if he thinks that that comparison is a fair one.
