Dickens doubts

I was furious about the claim that children are “not capable” of reading Dickens (your report, 6 February).

When I was at school we were given a set number of pages to read each day or week, then we’d discuss it in class and have simple tests to prove we’d read and understood it.

If we didn’t understand it the teacher helped.

Persevering with something that seems difficult gives the most satisfaction.

People give up far too easily these days.
