Denarii display

As CHAIRMAN of the Trimontium Trust and its museum in Melrose, I was delighted to see the reference (your report, 20 July) to the Ashkirk (Synton Hill) Hoard of 228 silver denarii now on display in Melrose, together with the welcoming exhibition of coins in clay, fabric and posterwork by the pupils of Melrose primary school.

The hoard, after fundraising, is the joint property of Scottish Borders Council and the Trimontium Trust, and will be displayed alternately by each partner every six months. Thursday, 31 October, sees an illustrated public lecture in Melrose Corn Exchange (to which all are welcome) by conservator Will Murray on the fascinating process of cleaning the coins.
