Date line

Steuart Campbell’s observation about the numerical uniqueness of yesterday’s date (Letters, 11 December) is incorrect.

My father-in-law who died a few weeks ago, aged 102, was fortunate to witness two sequences of 9.10.11 (aged eight months and 100) and 10.11.12 (aged one and 101). If had lived a little longer he would have made it to his second 11.12.13. As to the assertion that there can never be another such sequence, if I hang on in there to 161 I will be able to celebrate the 11 December 2113 in much the same way… by writing to The Scotsman!
