Cycle tracks

The recent press release from VisitScotland that the Borders Railway should become a “tourism magnet” is to be welcomed.

Nevertheless, the fact there will be space for only two bicycles per journey is surely missing a growing tourism opportunity. The Scottish Borders is already proving to be a Mecca for mountain bikers, Tweedlove Biking Festival goes from strength to strength and the Borders area is full of a variety of safe cycle routes waiting to be explored.

The ability of families and cycle groups to visit by train with their own bikes and enjoy what the Borders can offer will not happen if you cannot be sure of getting on the train with a bicycle in the first place.
VisitScotland and others in authority should press the new Dutch operators for better facilities from the start.
