Creative solution

I do so agree with Brian Ferguson (your report, 10 November) that Creative Scotland has much explaining to do over its failure to fund Scottish Youth Theatre.

However, it is not just that, but major cuts to two of Scotland’s most successful theatres – the Traverse and the Lyceum – which were made, and the major beneficiary is Dance Base, a place for dancers where few spectators ever go.

I have a solution to the current budget problems: close down Creative Scotland, save money on the inflated salaries of its administrators and its offices, and put all the national companies in the fund given by the culture minister, as many already are. The rest of the budget should be given to local authorities but ringfenced for culture.

After all, the local authorities would at least know where their theatres were.
