Crass warfare

Before the usual recriminations commence about the European elections, may I point out that the only parties that bothered to take advantage of the free postal delivery drop through my door were the Liberal Democrats, the Tories and Ukip – the latter with a four-page booklet.

If none of the others could be bothered to send out any literature setting out their case, why should I vote for them?

However, I will confidently predict that the media and
political classes will blame
everyone bar themselves for a contemptible campaign in which the public were treated like simpletons and what amounted to a crass referendum on whether people thought Nigel Farage was the Messiah or the Anti-Christ.

With the European elections taking place today, could this be the last time Scots will vote as British citizens?

I assume that if there is a Yes vote in September, then Scots will not be allowed to vote for a UK Government in 2015.

Then, of course, there’s another dilemma: the 2016 Scottish elections will be held under a New Scotland banner; who is to say what will happen if the SNP loses this election?
