Costly renewables

Now that the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change has announced that renewable power has overtaken nuclear as the main source of electricity in Scotland (your report, 27 November), what does this mean?

An end to unsightly eagle-killing wind turbines; no more huge lumps of concrete slapped in almost every stream from the Borders to Cape Wrath, desecrating fish stocks, freshwater mussel beds, insects, plants and bird life?

So much for conservation 
values. Renewables have come at a high cost; now that the green-energy goal has been reached they must be reined in.
