Compulsory read

Once more, Joyce McMillan (Perspective, 23 March) speaks most effectively for surely many Scottish citizens. I doubt, however, whether our politicians, Nationalist or unionist, are even capable of rising to the challenge and indeed the opportunity that the constitutional debate presents.

Would it not be ironical if, in the two years ahead, all the “debate” served to demonstrate was that Scotland totally lacks both the political and civic leadership required to prevent the voters sinking further into “yet more political apathy, disengagement, and despair”?

If ever Scotland needed a fiery cross sent through the villages, towns, cities and glens, up the hills and across the moors, it is now, and what better modern equivalent than a copy of Ms McMillan’s article through every letterbox in the land?
