Cold comfort

Credit where credit is due – the UK government assuring pensioners not to worry about their fuel bills in our freezing climate as additional benefits will follow has to be commended. But perhaps it would be appropriate to remember that about 50,000 expats living in warmer climates receive the winter fuel allowance, currently £200.

Can this be justified when we have many on incapacity benefit, confined to their homes, sitting cold and adding to their health problems, bringing additional costs to the health service?
