Cold call hell

Like many readers I am regularly subjected to “cold callers” (editorial, 6 April) and I welcome the news that tougher fines are to be imposed on companies that continually cause distress by their cold calling.

However, I wonder how this will be implemented by those who withhold their number and those whose calling details are “unavailable” such as the caller who called me after midnight
recently.

While the calls during the day are bad enough, to waken me from my sleep is totally unacceptable but I could do nothing as the details were “unavailable”.

Like many others I have answered these calls and explained I am not interested in the product and asked, politely but firmly, for my details to be removed from their database.

This early morning caller does not answer when I do answer and because details are “unavailable” it seems nothing can be done.
