Code of conduct

While we agree with Dr John Cameron that acts of rape should be detected and punished (Letters, 13 June), he is totally misguided when he writes that Allied soldiers raped their way across Europe in 1944 and that rape was the ubiquitous crime of all Allied armies in the Second World War.

Our Highland Division comrades will be incensed and insulted that their sacrifices and achievements should be tarnished by such an irresponsible and ill-informed claim.

None of the members of our Highland Division Veterans Association were ever known to have first-hand knowledge of such crimes.

Those who were there know that front-line soldiers lived and died by a high code of conduct.
