Close encounters of the Toblerone kind

WHEN a West Lothian electrician spotted a mystery object hovering over a field it was not quite a close encounter of the third kind. Instead of being saucer shaped, the long triangular object resembled a well known chocolate bar.

Yet this close encounter of the Toblerone kind, revealed in previously secret documents made public today by the Ministry of Defence, is just one of many reported sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects in Scotland.

Many of them were reported in the country's UFO hotspot, the notorious Bonnybridge Triangle, where it is said that there were 600 appearances of mysterious, unexplainable objects.

As far as we know, Mulder and Scully never made it to West Lothian to investigate these strange sightings but we do know that the MoD and the government did take them seriously enough to commission the reports published today.

Most would find it fanciful to believe that we are being watched, that little green men have been to earth, let alone Bonnybridge, lovely town though it is.

But Nick Pope, who investigated UFO reports at the MOD, has told The Scotsman that although he is not a fully paid up believer in visitors from the stars he does think some of the reports are "genuinely unexplained".

So could they be watching? Is someone out there? Who knows. But be warned: we may not be on our Tobler-own.
