Climate chaos

May I respond to Roy Turnbull’s attack on Clark Cross (Letters, 2 October)?

I suspect that Mr Turnbull is a green activist since I have seen numerous letters from him in various publications.

Former UK environment secretary Owen Paterson summed this debate up extremely well when he said: “We were never told the [warming] pause was coming along. There were about 30 different explanations for it and nobody explains why the pause is suddenly going to disappear and we’re going to get back on the track upwards.”

Climate models have been shown to be highly inaccurate leading to, as Clark Cross said, “numerous punitive green taxes and wind turbines”.

It is worth celebrating the good news that the planet’s temperatures are not accelerating to “thermageddon” as the climate change lobby would have us believe.

ROY Turnbull, with his criticism of me, conceals that he is a leading (renewable) light in Stop Climate Chaos Scotland (SCCS) which receives taxpayer funding. You know someone is losing their argument when they resort to personal insults.

My letter on volcanoes was based on research published by Ian Rutherford Plimer, an Australian geologist, professor emeritus of earth sciences at the University of Melbourne and professor of mining geology at the University of Adelaide.

I would rather believe Prof Plimer than Roy Turnbull.

No matter how Mr Turnbull tries to wriggle, it was the IPCC which admitted that there was a pause in global warming most likely caused by ash clouds.

Dr John Christy, professor of atmospheric science and director of the Earth System Science Centre at the University of Alabama/Huntsville, says there has been no global warming for 18 years.

Others agree and say that this trend could continue for another 20 years.

This pause is a major embarrassment to the climate research community, since their computer models failed to predict this.

If green fundamentalists believe that man-made greenhouse gasses control the climate then it doesn’t really matter to them what the physical evidence shows.
