Climate agnostics must face facts

IF IDEOLOGY overwhelms science, it is hard to convince with arguments somebody who does not want to believe in science.

To help Gerald Warner to understand scientific results (Insight, 4 September), may I recommend to him to read the blog on the CERN results that is administered by the Potsdam Institute for Climate Change – http://www.realclimate.org/index.php/archives/2011/08/the-cerncloud-results-are-surprisingly-interesting – and then remember that journalists have a responsibility to the truth and not only to what they want the truth to be.

Serious scientists do justice to the CERN team by interpreting their results in their own right and not to misuse them for their ideology.

And they come to the conclusion that the CERN research does prove a lot, but certainly not that we should stop in our endeavour to make our consumption of energy more sustainable.

The German government is committed to keeping our planet liveable for future generations and not to make our lives easy by conveniently ignoring what the overwhelming majority of serious scientists have found out in the last few years.

I don’t mind climate sceptics, but I find climate agnostics irresponsible. Gerald Warner is one of them.
