City square plan

Neil Baxter from the Royal Incorporation of Architects Scotland has stated that the cost of the proposed City Square Project in Aberdeen could be at least double the projected £140 million estimate.

I was informed last week by Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future, the organisation promoting the project, that Aberdeen City Council would be responsible for any cost overrun.

Given the problems with Aberdeen's current finances, it would be far too risky and unfair to sanction the City Square. The citizens of Aberdeen could end up paying the penalty in terms of reduced services and amenities for a scheme they never wanted in the first place.
