Church scrutiny

AFTER lecturing us for the past two years or so on how Scotland has lost its moral compass, Cardinal Keith O'Brien's comments on child sex abuse in the Catholic Church (your report, 2 April) defy belief.

He says "any Catholics who were aware of such crimes and did not act to report them brings shame on us all". It seems that the crimes would have to have been reported to the police for any action to have been taken, but perhaps that's not what he had in mind. It's also intriguing that whilst most politicians have plenty to say about most issues, on this one their silence is deafening.
