Christmas debt

A small paragraph in The Scotsman (25 November) revealed that more than three million people are still paying for last Christmas before they even start spending for this Christmas.

The huge amount of advertising at this time of year and possibly peer pressure results in expenditure that cannot really be afforded by many people.

After a short time there is little to show for all the debt that has been run up and it hangs over families and individuals for many months.

It is so sad that the Christmas fairy story has resulted in this situation. It is said that we need the expenditure at Christmas for our economy but many people of limited means pay a high price for this so-called economy boost.
